Winner: Martin Kaymer
Around the wider world of golf: Most of the golf world was quiet while the US Open played out. Xin Jun Zhang won the Earls Beijing Open on the PGA TOUR China; Morgan Pressel's little sister Madison got her first pro win at the Decatur-Forsyth Classic on the Symetra Tour; and Sun-Ju Ahn won the Suntory Ladies on the JLPGA (the Constructivist has the details).
NEWS FLASH: Martin Kaymer has won the Family Slam -- an event on Mother's Day (THE PLAYERS) and an event on Father's Day (the US Open).
And of course he set some information within the system. First of all, he's the first participant ever to win THE PLAYERS and the USA Open within the identical season. He became the primary player to shoot 65 in the first spherical of a primary... And the primary player to shoot 65 in every of the first rounds. He set a gaggle of different information as well -- so many that I can't take into account them all!
But this was a dominating overall performance, so much so that Rory stated it become better than his personal 8-stroke win at Congressional and Keegan Bradley stated his first two rounds were the satisfactory two rounds of golf he had ever visible. (My gosh, simplest 2 different gamers even broke par for the week!) It's no longer often which you see a participant win wire-to-wire in consecutive events, let alone activities of the stature Martin won.
They have not posted the brand new international scores as of this writing, but Martin is presently 28. I suspect he'll be 12 or maybe eleven while the brand new ratings come out today. But he is already taken the #1 spot in my RGWR -- nobody else has gained two occasions as big as Martin has inside the last 12 months, let alone the ultimate month! At this price, it is only a count of time earlier than the OWGR catches as much as my rankings.
In the meantime, Martin Kaymer tops my list of favorites going into the Open Championship next month... And gets a well-deserved Limerick Summary this week:
For World Number One permit me nominate
Martin Kaymer, who stepped as much as dominate
The Open at Pinehurst.
He made the sector sense worse
By stomping ‘em all when he romped in eight. The photo came from the tournament wrap-up page at PGATOUR.com.
