Twofer Tuesday: Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

Twofer Tuesday tees it up for the children this week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau

TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas is the site of this week's event, where Bryson DeChambeau will try and shield the title he received in the course of his torrid run of 4 wins in five months. (Last yr this occasion become held in November, a month later than this year.) Being in the wasteland, we will in all likelihood count on some warm sunny weather and rapid direction conditions.

Scoring-sensible this isn't always the region for Rory McIlroy, given his feedback approximately birdiefests. At 7255 yards and a par of seventy one, this course has seen two 60s in its history -- J.J. Henry in 2013 and Rod Pampling in 2016 --and commonly the winner finishes at -20 or decrease. But this course doesn't want bombers over technicians -- each Webb Simpson and Ryan Moore percentage the event record of 260 (-24).

Which begs the query: Who can dominate this track this week? My selections are short and sweet.

  • For my Top10er I'm taking Patrick Cantlay. Cantlay lost to DeChambeau by a single stroke last year in an excellent defense of his first PGA Tour win here in 2017. It's hard to believe he won't do well again, given his past record around the place.
  • And my winner is Adam Hadwin. I'll be honest -- my pick is based purely on his finish last week. I'm just taking the hot hand.
Whenever you're faced with a low-scoring track like TPC Summerlin, it really is a crapshoot when picking a winner. One pick based on proven comfort with the track and one based on current form; I figure I've got as good a chance with these two as with anybody else in the field!

GC's coverage begins Thursday at 4pm ET, which is fairly early for a West Coast event. (At least, it's the West Coast time zone.) PGA TOUR LIVE begins streaming at 9:45am ET. Let's see who can get hot in the desert!
