The Limerick Summary: 2012 Ryder Cup

Winner: Europe

Around the wider world of golf: As hard as it is to believe, golf was actually played somewhere besides Medinah this weekend! Tsai Chi-huang won the Asian Tour's Mercuries Taiwan Masters; Daniela Iacobelli won the Symetra Tour's Daytona Beach Invitational; Russell Henley won the Chiquita Classic on the Web.com Tour; and Shanshan Feng won the Japan Women's Open on the JLPGA (the Constructivist has details).

Europe wins the Cup

It's already got a name -- the Miracle at Medinah. And having called yesterday's post Do YOU Have a Feeling? , perhaps I should have called this one More Than a Feeling...

Today's post is rather short simply because I'm going to spend a post or two this week looking at the Ryder Cup matches more closely -- with an eye to how they might help you play better in your next match, whether it's a full-fledged tournament or your weekly foursome. For the time being I'll just say that the Euros put on quite a show Sunday, all the while encouraging international understanding by showing the US Team just how that beatdown at Brookline really felt.

Some cultural exchanges are more quality than others, obviously!

So now we have the Miracle at Brookline AND the Miracle at Medinah. Given that it's happened twice now -- once to each side, for both home and away teams -- perhaps coming back from a 10-6 lead after the team matches will no longer be considered a miracle. Rather, it will be seen as merely a challenge that good play can overcome. It's certainly worked out that way so far!

So this week's Limerick Summary salutes the victorious European Ryder Cup Team. The next US attempt at redemption is two years away -- when, as some of the Americans sang at Medinah, the Ryder Cup will be "away, away, away, away... away, it's away...":

The US Team looked correct at dawn;

By sundown, they truely regarded drawn.

Can you assert "melancholy"?

It just begs the question?

Are we all REALLY sure Seve's gone??? The photo came from europeantour.com's home page.
