The Constructivist is overlaying the LET's Lalla Meryem Cup over on his blog, and he is rightfully specializing in Ariya Jutanugarn (who has the lead after the second one round) and the younger gamers who're combating it out for the lead.
But I'm an old guy so I'm going to focus on the "old lady" in the field -- Laura Davies.
You see, Laura is gambling some of the satisfactory golfing we have visible from her in some time. She's presently at -5 (T4), 3 pictures off Ariya's lead. But her stats say she's gambling some exquisite golf. She has 7 birdies in opposition to 2 bogeys, and she's hitting 86% of her fairways and ninety four% of her veggies. (That's 34 out of 36 vegetables.) Those are just great stats for a person who's normally as wild off the tee as Laura!
Although they only have Ariya's stats for the first round, she hit 43% of her fairways and 78% of her greens in that round. So why is she beating Laura? In a word, putting. Laura's averaging 33 putts per round while Ariya took 25 in the first round.
Here's a short interview Laura did after the second spherical:
Laura blames her setting as properly. It's been her bugaboo for pretty some time.
But she's gambling properly otherwise and Laura has usually been a streaky putter. If she may want to just get a touch warm on the veggies -- and if Ariya continues lacking fairways and veggies -- she could scouse borrow this event. And she has a few more motivation because she needs the Solheim Cup points.
I for one can be checking in to look how Laura does. This may be a first rate story inside the making!
