The LPGA is taking the week off in preparation for the newly-majorized Evian Championship next week. (I know you're all probably tired of my term newly-majorized, but I'm afraid I've fallen in love with it.) It makes sense, since you don't want to have to scramble overseas to play a major.
However, the LET has no such troubles; they're ALREADY distant places. (At least, they may be whilst you stay in North Carolina.) So the LET is gambling a event this week -- the Helsingborg Open in Helsingborg, Skane, Sweden. Just a hop, pass and a jump from Evian-les-Bains, France and the Evian.
You may assume that quite a few the LPGA players would scoot over and try and play the LET occasion. However, that doesn't appear to be the case. A short perusal of the Helsingborg Open leaderboard showed notably few LPGA gamers within the subject... Or even fewer Americans.
But I.K. Kim DID decide to play. It appears to have been a great choice, as she is leading after the first spherical! (Yes, it's a blurry image. The LET seemingly likes little bitty photos of players.)
Inky does not play a great deal overseas. In 2012 she performed inside the RICOH Women's British Open and the now not-as-but-majorized Evian Masters. This year she reputedly determined to add the Helsingborg Open as a warm-up.
As I stated, an amazing decision. She shot a bogey-unfastened 65. She said later:
?Sweden is one of the nations that I genuinely appreciate and I have a few fantastic buddies from here so I wanted to go to,? Said the 4-time match champion, who earned her last victory at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in 2010. ?I?M pleased with how I performed. There are a few lengthy and difficult holes however I performed well on the par fives and had a few exact up and downs.?I know that every player has their own way of preparing for a major. Some like to play the week before, some don't. But I like what Inky has done. She has 8 Top10s this year, but she's been a bit erratic the last few weeks and dropped two spots in the Rolex Rankings just this past week. (She's been up and down, always around the same number of points, but the players around her are moving up.) A good week in Sweden may be just what she needs to get her season going.
With the last major of the year just a week away, now's the time. Maybe she'll get newly-majorized as well!
