Mark Crossfield on Putting from Deep Rough (Video)

Yes, I know he says he is chipping... However he is the use of a PUTTER!

This is a shot from a gnarly buried lie. It's no longer some thing you need to do except you have to... But in case you want it, it is a super shot to have!

This is genuinely something you'll need to exercise however, as Mark says, it is hard to get a easy strike with a wedge from this kind of lie. Positioning the ball way back on your stance -- opposite your trailing toes -- and simply hitting immediately down so the ball pops out and runs will at the least get the ball out of the rough.

Please be aware that the ball is very near the inexperienced for this shot. (Mark's simplest a foot or so from shorter grass.) You'll want to look precisely how some distance far from the green you could be and nonetheless get this to paintings.

Also note what Mark says: The ball comes out hot if it comes out -- this is a very bad lie, and you need a bit of luck -- and you'll have very little control. It's all about how hard you hit the ball. If you don't hit it hard enough, it won't come out. If you hit it too hard, it will rocket across the green. You'll have to practice this shot before you try it during a round!

Even with all of the drawbacks, I believe Mark -- this is a clever shot to use whilst you're in an in any other case not possible situation. (I bet some of the men at Pebble this week wish they'd this shot.) I would not spend a whole lot of time practicing it, but a couple of minutes spent whenever you hit the range ought to come up with a surely cool weapon in your quick sport.
