The Final Major of 2019

This is it. The girls tee it up on the AIG Women's British Open at Woburn Golf Club in England.

Defending champion Georgia Hall

As traditional, Tony Jesselli has published a tremendous preview of the occasion over at his blog; you could check it out at this hyperlink. I'll just mention a pair of things that I discover particularly exciting.

Georgia Hall is the defending champion of the occasion, however Ariya Jutanugarn received tt when the Open was final held at Woburn (2016). Both should are available in with properly feelings, although neither has had the year they'd was hoping for. Georgia says she got a bit too technical after the win even as Ariya has (for my part besides) simply had an off year, that's understandable after the barnburner she had in 2018 in which she gained quite a great deal every award that was to be had to her.

Also up for grabs this week is the Rolex Annika Major Award, that could simplest go to a major winner. There are simplest three players who can win it at this point -- Jin Young Ko, Jeongeun Lee6 and Hannah Green -- but Ko has a clear lead with two primary wins this season. The award might be given after Sunday's very last round.

If Jin Young Ko can just finish status up, she's gonna be hard to overcome. If Lee6 wins however Ko posts a Top5, or if Green wins but Ko posts a Top10, I assume Ko takes it.

I realize this is just her third Open appearance and he or she overlooked the cut ultimate year. But I can't assist but feel she's a special participant now. Despite coming off a main win at Evian, I don't think I might wager against Jin Young Ko this week.

GC's coverage starts Thursday morning (August 1) at 6am ET and runs until 1pm ET that afternoon. I'm really looking forward to this one because, while Ko is the favorite for the Annika Award, that doesn't mean she's automatically going to win. I'm particularly interested to see if Jennifer Kupcho can put something together after her runner-up finish last week.
