Lou Guzzi on Knockdown Shots (Video)

Guzzi's technique to knockdown shots is a chunk different from maximum instructors', and he has a useful 'sense' tip we will study from it.

Guzzi isn't shifting the ball again and the usage of a 3-zone shot (up round ear degree). Rather, he leaves the ball in its ordinary function and shortens his backswing to a half-shot! Then he swings to a complete finish. We can get all of that from what he says.

Now permit's take a look at that other tip we are able to infer from what he does.

By shortening his backswing to some thing among his waist and his shoulders -- I think it might be a bit longer with a hybrid or fairway wooden (he is the usage of a 7-iron here) -- he dramatically reduces the space he hits any given club.

But how a good deal distance does he lose? He offers us a hint. Since he's hitting this 7-iron one hundred twenty yards but he generally hits that membership round a hundred and sixty, it is around three to 4 clubs less. That offers us a place to begin for estimating how far we'll hit a knockdown shot with any given membership.

Here's the tip: When hitting a knockdown shot, figure you'll need about three or four more clubs to get the same distance. Will it be that way all the time? Probably not. But when you face a knockdown shot, especially one that you haven't practiced, use this rule of thumb to get you in the ballpark.

Choose your target correctly -- so that a mis-hit may not positioned you in trouble -- and you could enhance your rating dramatically.
